it was a typical thursday afternoon...i had just come back from lunch with some co-workers and i was chatting in the kitchen with a co-worker whose wife was due shortly after me. we were talking about our future little girls. i felt a little something that down there that was not normal so i cut the conversation short and headed back to my desk to get something out of my purse! my boss came up to me and handed me something (still not sure what it was) but i just grabbed it and threw it on my desk...at this point the something down there was absolutely not normal...i started running for the bathroom and that's when it gushed! i made it to the bathroom but my pants were soaked and so was the bathroom floor! i yelled out if anyone was in the bathroom and a lady slowly answered...yesss. she went into a slight panic asking what she needed to do. she got one of my co-workers and her gym bag. slowly the bathroom started filling up with other co-workers and bosses! i borrowed her workout pants but soaked those too! i called russ from the bathroom stall but no answer...so i sent him a text. "my water broke!" he was in a meeting with the VP and some others. he interrupted them saying..."ummm i need to go lauren's water broke!" since my car had the car seat in it he jumped on the mall ride and met me at my office.
i had made my way down with paper towels stuffed in my pants and was outside waiting for russ. my co-worker was awesome and went to my garage a couple blocks away to get my car (which was on the 7th floor! didn't think i could make it up the stairs). she came to the building but missed us so russ chased after us (i tried but had to stop and sit on the curb...it kept gushing!) he went around the block and came to get me....we were off to have a baby!!!
i had called my doctor and she said we could go home and get our stuff....russ was in panic mode. it was so cute :) the first person i called was my mom...she didn't believe me at first!
we got to the hospital around 4ish (we had to stop by target to get dvd's for our video camera!)
we got all checked in and i was feeling good....the contractions started coming very soon and got stronger and stronger. i was on the "see and wait" plan....haha that lasted until 9:30 pm when i was on the "i want the epidural now!" plan. it was such a relief and i knew i needed it to get some rest. i was progressing really well all throughout the night but my tail bone was an awkward shape and she just couldn't get passed a certain point. the dr. came in at 7:30 and recommended that we do a c-section. at 8:46 am emma jane pfeifer was born! unfortunately, my c-section was not the best experience and i was so tired from all night labor that i don't remember my first moments with her but we do have pictures. russ was such an amazing husband and "coach" throughout labor and after (except when he was secretly video taping me while i was pushing!) makes for funny video afterwards though! we have both been so in love with our little girl since the moment we met her.
there aren't words to describe how much a miracle babies are...the whole pregnancy and birth has been amazing and what we received is just a blessing. i love you emma!
